東南アジア最大のトンレサップ湖畔の山の上にある遺跡へ登ってきました。湖面に夕陽が映り込み光り輝く光景は、とても綺麗でした。雨期はこの辺り一面が水に浸かっているそうです。

１０世紀初頭に作られたヒンズー教の遺跡も夕陽に照らされて神秘的でした。

First Art Exhibition at Victoria Hotel 生徒作品展示会

We had a first art exhibition at Victoria Hotel on February 26th and 27th. Teacher Tomoko prepared how to display nicely. It fits the hotel environment and looked very beautiful.

We exhibited our art students featuring Hay Chhoem. We had more than 200 guests in 2 days. The art exhibition was opened to everyone. So students were happy to invite their family and friends. Students were highly recognized and we are proud of them.

２月２６日と２７日の2日間、ビクトリアホテルでの生徒作品展示会を開催しました。知子先生は、とても綺麗に展示する方法を考え、ビクトリアホテルの外観にとても合っていました。今回一番作品を展示したのは、ハイ君のでしたが、彼の作品の幅の広さに多くの人が驚いていました。2日間で２００人以上のご来場があり、生徒達も家族や友達を招待して、自分の作品を紹介できて、とても喜んでいました。彼らの作品が高く評価されたことをとても嬉しく思います。

Visiting Boravuth's hometown and her grave

The truck took us to the closest middle size city to fix our car. The city was Kratie. The city is Boravuth's hometown and her family live there. When we arrived Kratie, I asked an interpreter Hea to call her sister. Her sister and husband came to see us at a car repair shop. She invited me her home to see her other family. She and I got on a motor and she told me that there is a temple where Boravuth sleeps. So I said I want to visit there. It was February 11th, 2009 6PM when she passed away about two years ago. I was asked to translate the Japanese message on her grave at the time. Right after that, I started "Team Boravuth". Even though it was an accident, I was glad to visit there.

トラックは、最寄りの修理工場まで送ってくれることになったのですが、その町がクラチェという町でした。この町は、Boravuthの家族が住む町と知っていたので、クラチェに着いたときに、通訳のヒーアさんにBoravuthの妹さんに電話してもらいました。妹さんと旦那さんが二人で、修理工場まで来てくれて、私たちを家に招待してくれました。とりあえず先に私が妹さんとバイクで帰る途中に、妹さんがBoravuthさんが眠るお墓のあるお寺が近くにあるというので、寄ってもらいましたた。Boravuthさんが亡くなったのは、ちょうど２年前の２００９年２月１１日６PMでした。その直後にTeam Boravuthを始めました。ヒッチハイクすることになってしまいましたが、こうしてBoravuthさんのお墓参りができたことを嬉しく思います。

Car Brokedown and hitchhiked / 車炎上　ヒッチハイク

On the way back to Siem Reap, our car broke down at the middle of nowhere. No houses, no people, no animal, just burned field all over. We decided to leave the car for a while and wait a miracle comes. After about 15 minutes, a miracle happened. A big truck passed in front of us. Teacher Tomoko suddenly decided to ask them to carry us. The truck drivers were nice and they helped to push our car and take us to the nearest city where we can fix a car. So we had a truck ride for a few hours. It was fun!!

シェムリアップへの帰り道、思いも寄らず車が炎上。周りは、家も無く、人々もいない、動物さえもいない、焼き畑のみ。途方に暮れて、暑いので日陰に避難して、奇跡を待ちました。１５分もしないうちに、その奇跡は起きました。車も運べるトラックが目の前を走っていたので、知子先生が、間髪入れずに、「あの車で行きましょう。」トラックの運転手は、親切に車が修理できる近くの町まで乗せて行ってくれることに同意してくれました。（有料ですが）近くまでと行っても、トラックで約２時間かかるとのことでした。手押しで車をトラックに乗せ、数時間、トラックの旅を楽しみました。まるで映画のワンシーンのようでした。

Even thought the time was so short, students really developed their skills to "see". The NGO manager were so happy to see their progress. Since she met Teacher Tomoko last summer, it was her strong wish that Teacher Tomoko comes to teach art for students there. Art does not have right or wrong. That is why it is difficult to improve without a teacher. Teacher Tomoko promised to come back to Ratanakiri again.

短い時間だったにも関わらず、生徒達は「見る力」を付けることができたとNGOのマネージャーも今回の美術授業での生徒の成長を見てとても喜んでいました。昨年夏にシェムリアップを訪れ、小さな美術スクール活動を知ってから、知子先生にぜひラタナキリにも来て欲しいとの願いがやっと叶いました。アートは答えがないため、先生なしでは教えるのは難しい科目です。ラタナキリの子ども達の可能性を見て、知子先生もまたラタナキリに来ることを約束しました。

Ratanakiri is also famous for beautiful nature. After the class, we stopped at a water fall.

Four of us (an art teacher, interpreter, driver and me) and a dog, Tsuyoshi came from Siem Reap. We are a good team together.

ラタナキリは、美しい自然でも有名です。授業の後に、滝があるというので、立ち寄りました。珍しく小さな美術スクールスタッフのグループ写真です。知子先生、通訳のヒーアさん、今回ドライバー補助として来て下さった警備のシェアップさんとヒーアさんの愛犬つよし君。

Art lesson for Caramanico school

We went to an American donor, Caramanico's school. Students are in junior high school, but age about 18-20 years old. Many students could not come to school because of their family or just too far to go to school. The donor also built dormitories for both boys and girls. The local coordinator told us that just a few can go to a high school in the city. But many can not continue to study and do not have much choices for their future.

Students listened very carefully and draw plants very beautifully. We will send some drawings to the donor in America.

アメリカ人の寄付で建てられたカラマニコスクールへ行ってきました。年令は１８歳から２０歳ですが、学校の学年は中学生です。多くの子ども達が、家の理由や学校が近くに無いことを理由に学校に長い間行けませんでした。現地のコーディネーターによると、近くに高校がないため、優秀な生徒の数名しか、町にある高校へ行けないそうです。ほとんどの子ども達は、学び続けることはできず、将来の選択もあまり持つことができません。

生徒達は、授業を注意深く聞き、綺麗な植物を描きました。この作品をアメリカの寄付者にお送りします。

Visiting Minority village / 少数民族の村訪問

We have received many used clothes from friends. It was an good opportunity to give them away to people in need. We drove hours to the mountains and found small villages where minority are living. We stop these villages and gave out clothes and crackers. Clothes were not enough for all children as we expected. That was too bad.

日本の方々から頂いた古着などを配るために、数時間の山道を走って、少数民族が住む村を訪問しました。村に到着すると、あっという間に人々が次々と集まり、一人一人の子ども達に服が行き届かないのが悔やまれます。暑いイメージのカンボジアでも、山岳地帯は寒いくらいなのですが、服も無く生活している子ども達がたくさんいるのに驚きました。

Nursery art lesson / 幼稚園児の美術授業

We visited a nursery school and had an art class for children age 4 and 5. Schedule was very limited for them only 1 an half hours because of their nap time. So we had an leaf print card (not pop-up card). They could experience printing, coloring, cutting, pasting and drawing at one time. I was amazed their creativity.

４歳と５歳の幼稚園の子ども達に美術授業をしました。お昼寝の時間が必須なため、１時間半と限られた時間でしたので、葉の飛び出すカードでなく、プリントカードを作ることにしました。子ども達は、葉に色を塗りプリントし、はさみで切り、のりで貼り、自由に描く体験を一度にできました。子ども達の自由な想像力には驚かされます。

We brought Cambodian flowers and plants for drawing lesson for second day.

Teacher Tomoko taught to check carefully the proportion of a plant. Students were looking their plant and focusing on drawing for 3 hours.

授業の2日目は、カンボジアの植物を描きました。知子先生が、紙に対する植物の比率を説明し、生徒達はとても良く理解して、大きさを測りながら描いていました。３時間の授業で、かなり「物を見る目」がついたと先生はおっしゃっていました。

Meeting with Sponsored girl

Team Boravuth supports "Girls Be Ambitious" program which provide financial support to the girl's family, so girls can go to school. Team Boravuth's goal was to sponsor 10 girls and I could meet one of them, Lim Sat.

She also joined the art class and draw a plant. According to the program manager, she is one of the best student at the school.

チームボラブスが奨学金を支給している子ども達は１０人います。そのうちの一人Lim Satにラタナキリで会うことができました。このプログラムは、女の子への奨学金プログラムで、彼女達が学校に通えるように、毎月１０ドルを家族に支払います。そうして彼女たちは、働くのではなく、学校に通えるという仕組みです。プログラムマネージャーによると、彼女は学校での成績も良いそうです。彼女も美術の授業に参加して、植物を描きました。

Beautiful Lake ／湖

Ratanakiri has many beautiful places to see. After the art lesson, we stopped at a beautiful lake where a minority tribe lives. I wish I could jump to the lake, but it was a bit cold the afternoon.

ラタナキリは、綺麗な場所がたくさんあります。美術授業の後、少数民族が住む湖を見に行ってきました。湖に飛び込みたかったけれど、この日は少し寒かったので、辞めておきました。

After students finished making cards, they showed the cards each other. Students wrote messages in English for their American Pen pals. They were proud of their first hand made cards. Their penpals will be happy to receive these beautiful cards.

飛び出すカードが完成したら、生徒皆で見せ合いっこしました。生徒達は、英語でアメリカのペンパルへのメッセージを書きました。彼らが生まれて初めて作った、世界に一つの手作りカードを受け取るペンパル達の喜ぶ顔が目に浮かびます。

Pop up Card making Part 1 / 飛び出すカード作り

Our first art class was for three kinds of group of students at the NGO.

1) The bright kids of the Bright Future Kids Program

2) The girls of the Girls Be Ambitious Program/Girls Learn International Program (GBA/GLI).

3) The students (boys and girls) of the Keiki Connection Project.

Students have never learned art and used painting art materials. So we made a pop up card with leaf prints to get used to art supplies and colors. Students went outside to pick up several leaves and put colors on them. They stamped on the paper and cut the shape of the each leaf. Children paid attention what Teacher Tomoko says (Mr. Hea interpreted to Cambodian). Teacher Tomoko prepared for special class for them since the time is very limited. She has 31 years experience teaching in high schools in Tokyo. Such a talented, experienced teacher she is!!

観光はさておき、到着翌日から早速授業を開始しました。

最初の授業では、３つのグループの生徒達が待っていました。

１）優秀な生徒を集めたブライトヒューチャーキッズプログラムの生徒達

２）女の子の奨学金プログラムの生徒達

３）海外の子ども達との文通などをしているケイキコネクションプロジェクトの生徒達

生徒達は、美術授業を受けるのも絵の具を使うのも初めてなので、道具に慣れるために、まず最初に葉をプリントした飛び出すカードを作りました。外に出て、それぞれ気に入った葉っぱを数枚持ってきて、葉に絵の具を塗り、紙にプリントして、そのプリントされた葉のモチーフを切って、カードに貼りました。知子先生の授業も、今までとは違って、短い時間で多くを学べるように授業を準備されていました。授業は、より専門的で、子ども達も通訳のヒーアさんが訳す言葉を真剣に聞いていました。さすが３１年の高校美術教師の経験を持っていらっしゃる方だと思いました。

First day in the morning, we visited a temple before we go to a school. It was a on the top of the hill and there was a beautiful laying Golden Buddha. We prayed to succeed our mission in Ratanakiri.

Trip to Ratanakiri for Art lessons / ラタナキリでの出張絵画教室

As a request of NGO for art lessons, we had 800 km trip / 10 hours drive to Ratanakiri province by a car. Ratankiri locates Northeast and close to Laos and Vietnam borders.

The province called "mountains of Diamonds" and have beautiful views of mountains and produce 5 kinds of precious stones. Ratanakiri is also famous for coffee. I am now addicted to drink it everyday. There are several minority tribals who are living in mountains. The roads were very rough and sandy, but they will be better in a few years.

NGOに美術授業のリクエストを受け、シェムリアップから800km 離れたラタナキリ地方へ１０時間かけて行ってきました。ラタナキリ地方は、カンボジアの北東に位置し、ラオスとベトナム国境にも近いです。「ラタナキリ」という言葉は、「宝石と山がある場所」という意味だそうです。名前の通り、５種類の宝石が取れます。カンボジアの少数民族が住んでいることでも有名です。コーヒーの生産地としても有名です。道はかなり砂っぽく、荒れた道でしたが、数年後には良くなるだろうと思います。

We have a friend who is a Tuk Tuk drive and he welcomed to put an art exhibition ad on the back of his Tuk Tuk. He used be an English and computer teacher at NGO, so he often goest to schools in villages.

テュクテュクドライバーの友達が、アート展次会の広告を載せてくれました。彼は以前は、NGOで英語とコンピュータの先生をしていたそうで、村の学校に行く時は、いつも彼にお願いしています。今でもたくさんの生徒たちに慕われています。

Primary School Art Class / 小学校での美術授業

We go to teach at a local primary school in Siem Reap on every Saturday morning. The school has never had an art class. So when teachers announced about the art class, about 80 students showed their interests to attend the class. They learned how to see the object. They went outside in the school and draw their favorite spots.

毎週土曜日に地元の小学校へ絵の授業へ行きます。カンボジアの公立の学校には、美術、音楽、体育などの授業は一切無いため、美術を習いたい生徒を募ったところ、８０名参加することになりました。この日は、どのように描く物を見るかを習い、各自学校内で、自分の好きな場所で描く授業をしました。

Victoria Hotel Art Exhibition / ビクトリアホテルでの展示会

American artists from NYC, they stayed at Victoria Hotel. They came to visit the Small Art School and met teacher Tomoko and an artist Hay. They requested to the hotel if they can support us and held an art exhibition. The General manager at Victoria hotel generously approved it and we scheduled to have the student art exhibition on February 26th and 27th. We will exhibit our students' artworks from the Small Art School, community centers, a orphanage center, a primary school and students in Ratanakiri.

以前お会いしたニューヨークからのアーティストがヴィクトリアホテルにお泊まりになっていました。知子先生とアーティストのハイ君に会って、小さな美術スクールをサポートしたいと、ホテルでの展示会の依頼をしてくれました。そちらのホテルのジェネラルマネージャーもそのリクエストを快く受けて下さり、２月２６日と２７日の２日間、小さな美術スクール生徒の展示会をしてくださることになりました。ハイ君をメインに、孤児院やコミュニティーセンター、小学校、ラタナキリ地方の子ども達の作品も飾る予定です。

Printing Cards in Phnom Penh / カード印刷

We selected nice design drawings from our art students and we printed them to make post cards, cards and book marks. Luckily, we met an German government certified master craft man who have 17 years of experience in the printing industry. He has been consulting an Cambodian printing company where they print mainly books, government documents newspapers.

With his technical support, the cards were printed very nice. The purpose to print these cards are to get some financial support for the Small Art School. From the part of profits, we can buy art supplies, travel costs and school facilities.

プノンペンの印刷会社でカードと学校案内の印刷をしました。幸運なことに、１７年以上のドイツ印刷会社での経験を持ち、ドイツ政府の認可を受けた印刷技師とお会いでき、彼の監督の元、印刷が行われました。その印刷会社は、主に新聞、政府関係、本などを出版しているそうで、このようなカンボジアデザインカードは初めてだそうで、スタッフの人もとても楽しんでいるようでした。今後このカードの売上金は、美術スクールの画材、交通費、学校施設費などに使われます。

Card Game on New Year / お正月にカルタゲーム

Small Art Class has Japanese lessons from Monday to Friday for more than 45 students. Three volunteer teachers provide for 4 different levels for free. We had an card game with Japanese vocabulary cards. Teacher Tomoko says a word and students find the card. Students were very excited and sometimes got upset when they could not find the card. They also got a small gift (donation stationaries).

小さな美術スクールは、月曜から金曜、４５人程の生徒が無料で日本語を学んでいます。３人の先生が４つのレベルに分けて教えています。お正月には、日本語のカルタゲームをしました。カードには、生徒が描いた絵が描かれていて、先生が「りんご」というと生徒達がその「りんご」のカードを探します。生徒達は、とても興奮して、必死に探していました。見つからなかったり、お手つきしたり、別の人に取られてしまったら、とっても悔しそうにしていました。この日は、生徒達は小さなプレゼント（寄付してくださった筆記用具など）をもらって喜んでいました。

Computer Lesson / コンピュータレッスン

Small Art School started computer lessons. Boravuth's brother in law in Phnom Penh helped to buy reasonable used computers for total 4 computers for $440. Students can practice typing microsoft applications, Photoshop and others after Japanese and art class. My computer teacher came to teach Photoshop on Sunday afternoon voluntarily. Many students have never touched computers and they were very excited to learn.

小さな美術スクール内にコンピュータを導入しました。　プノンペンに住むBoravuthの義理のお兄さんにコンピュータショップを紹介してもらって、日本製の中古コンピュータ４台を$440

で購入できました。日本語と美術の生徒が授業の後に、タイピング練習、WordやExcel、E-mailの他に、日曜日にはカンボジア人のコンピュータの先生がボランティアでPhotoshopを教えてくれることになりました。ほとんどの生徒がコンピュータを触ったことがない生徒達だったので、習うことをとても喜んでいました。

All Hay's original art works traveled to the US / ハイ君の作品がニューヨークへ

We had a guest from NYC recently. She is an American artist and liked Hay's art works very much. She decided to bring all his original art works back to NYC and promote his arts at galleries in NYC and others. We are glad that his art talent was highly recognized by an professional artist. She and her sister also talked to a hotel manager to support our school and our students. The general manager of the hotel agreed to have an art exhibition in February. It would be a great opportunity to promote these young artists from our art school. We are also printing his art works as post cards and cards to support the Small Art School financially. We are expanding our capacity to close to 300 art students. It would be better if we can manage for art supplies from the profits of these cards near future.

ニューヨークからのアーティストが小さな美術スクールに見学にいらして、ハイ君の作品を大変気に入ってくれました。ギャラリーに飾っていた彼のオリジナルの作品を、アメリカに持ち帰って、ニューヨークや近郊のギャラリーに彼の作品を持って紹介したいとおっしゃったので、すべて作品をお渡ししました。これほどまでに、プロのアーティストに評価されたのは、知子先生に続いて二人目で、大変嬉しいことです。しかも、泊まっていた５つ星ホテルのマネージャーにまでお話をして下さって、若いカンボジアのアーティストと小さな美術スクールをサポートするために、２月に展示会イベントを開いて下さることになりました。彼の作品を印刷して、カード販売なども行って行く予定です。生徒数が３００人近くになってきた現在、すべて画材を知子先生自ら無料提供されているので、今後は生徒の作品を商品販売することによって、少しでも学校の運営費としてサポートできればと思っています。

Rice reaping / 稲刈りシーズン

When we go to the field, we see many people are reaping rice now. Many countries are so industrialized for mass production and we rely on machines and computers. I can not think about my life without a computer, a microwave and others. Although I like things made by hands and I should appreciate more about these. Cambodian rice is very delicious because of these hard working people.

村へでかけると、最近稲刈りをしている人々を良く見かけます。多くの国は、大量生産のための機械化が進み、私たちは機械やコンピュータに頼って生活しているなと感じます。私自身もコンピュータや電子レンジなどが無い生活は考えられなくなるほど依存しています。でも、やはり手作りのもののぬくもりは、どんなものより温かく感じられるので好きです。そういうものをもっと大事に、感謝していくべきだと実感しています。カンボジアのお米は、人々の手によって大事に育てられているのでとてもおいしいです。

Launching at local primary school / 小学校での美術授業開始

We were introduced a principle of a primary school in Siem Reap at a restaurant. He is also working at a children support NGO. When we introduced our art activities and invited him to our gallery, he asked us to teach at his primary school. Teacher Tomoko agreed to go there on every Saturday morning. At the first class, we had 44 students and they seemed enjoyed drawing first time. After that, the principle told us that there are another 40 students who want to attend the art class. So we decided to divide two groups.

シェムリアップのレストランで、地元小学校の校長先生を紹介されました。その方は、プノンペンに本部のある子ども支援のNGOでも働いているらしく、私たちのアート活動に興味を持って、美術の知子先生に、ぜひ彼の小学校でも教えて欲しいとお願いしてきました。知子先生も彼の子ども達に対する熱い思いに心動かされ、土曜日の朝に教えに行くことを承諾しました。

最初の授業は、４４人で、各自それぞれ、初めての絵の表現を楽しんでいたようです。その後、校長先生から、他にも４０人ほど習いたい子ども達がいることを聞いたので、２グループに分けて隔週ずつ生徒達は習うことになりました。

Learning together with older sister / お姉ちゃんと一緒に

Sometime we have small children who come with their older sisters and brothers. I guess they don't want to be alone at home. Whoever comes, they can learn art and experience their art world. This little girl was seriously thinking what to draw. After a while later, she started drawing on the paper with crayon. It reminds me of a movie of "my neighbor Totoro", Mei and Satsuki. It is very beautiful to see that sisters and brothers are taking care of each other.

時々、お姉ちゃんやお兄ちゃんと一緒にきた小さな生徒も授業に加わります。おそらく家で一人でいるのが寂しいからでしょう。どんな小さな生徒であっても、独自のアートの世界を体験しています。この女の子は、クレヨンを手にしてから、真剣に何を描くか悩んでいました。しばらくした後、夢中に描いていました。この姉妹を見て、「となりのトトロ」のメイちゃんとさつき姉妹を思い出しました。兄弟仲良く、机を並べて一緒に学ぶ姿は美しいです。

Art students from a village / 村から絵を習いにくる子ども達

Many people who live in villages spend more than 1 hour to find opportunities to learn and work in the city of Siem Reap. After the art class at SHCC, we run into some students who are riding bicycles to take an art lesson from a Khmer artist. Many young prioritize to study foreign languages, but not arts in Cambodia. But these students are so passionate to learn arts.

They will be great artists in the future.

村に住む多くの人々は、町に仕事や学ぶ機会も求めて、１時間以上も掛かる道のりを通います。SHCCでのアート授業の後に、数名の生徒達が町に自転車で出かけていました。どこへ行くのか聞いたところ、カンボジア人のアーティストに絵を習っているとのことでした。若い子ども達は、将来の仕事に直接結びつく外国語などを良く勉強しますが、アートを学ぶ生徒達はまだごく少ないです。でも、彼らのように、炎天下の中、輝く笑顔で絵を学びに通う姿を見て、

Cotton Field / 元地雷原がコットン畑へ

I met a Japanese social entrepreneur who are growing cotton in the former minefield areas to cotton fields. My friend who is a professional photographer (was visiting S.E. Asia) and I accompanied him to the cotton field. It was quite a rough road to the cotton field, but when I looked at the cotton field which spread out, I was overwhelmed with emotion. It was my first time to touch fresh cotton and it was very soft and fluffy. The children who worked in a cotton field was full of life and shining. Their smiles made my day!!

バッタンバン州などの元地雷原地域に、コットン畑を作ってカンボジア支援をされている日本人の方に同行して、コットン畑に行ってきました。この日は、東南アジアを旅行中のアメリカで活躍している友達のプロカメラマンも急遽、撮影を頼まれ、３人で荒れた道を約４時間、今にも壊れそうなランドクルーザーに乗って行きました。バッタンバンまでの道のりは、かなり難航しましたが、一面に広がるコットン畑を見たときには、疲れも吹き飛び、感無量でした。生まれて初めて触るできたてコットンの感触は、とてもふわふわで、気持ちよかったです。コットン畑で働く子ども達の笑顔はとても活き活きしていて、輝いていました。

Grand Opening Ceremony at SHCC / グランドオープニング

Self Help Community Center (SHCC) held an opening ceremony for the kindergarten building. This building was donated by Italian organization. The donors came from Italy to cerebrate this grand opening ceremony. Kindergarten children are learning English, music, art and Khmer here everyday. We are glad to complete the mural of SHCC logo before the ceremony. There were about 300 people to attend the ceremony. Students age 10 and 9 had a short speech in English. The guests from Italy looked very impressed and are happy to see the children at the community center.

セルフヘルプコミュニティーセンターにある、幼稚園校舎のイタリアからの寄付者を招いて、グランドオープニングセレモニーが開催されました。建物が完成してから、だいぶ経っており、すでに子ども達は、毎日元気に歌や英語、クメール語、美術を勉強しています。このセレモニーに間に合わせて、SHCCのロゴの壁画も完成してよかったです。９歳と１０歳の生徒による英語でのスピーチもありました。この日は、約３００人もの人が参加して、イタリアからのお客様も大変喜んでいらっしゃいました。

Ending Japanese lesson / 青少年会館での日本語の授業終了

I finished the Japanese class at the National Youth Center which I performed three times a week from this January. Including parents, my friends who visited Siem Reap participated in this class, and I enjoyed it very much. Through this experience, I learned myself how difficult to teach Japanese. We held the graduation ceremony of all. It is sad to say goodbye, but I invite some students to learn computer at the Small Art School. I am going to teach smaller children at the Small Art School. It is quite challenging to teach to the students who do not speak neither English and Japanese. Then, I should study Khmer much harder.

今年１月から週３回行ってきた日本語の授業を、「みんなの日本語」のテキスト２５章をもって、終了いたしました。両親を始め、シェムリアップを訪れてくれた友人も授業に参加してくれたりして、私自身もとても楽しみましたし、日本語を教えることの難しさも痛感しました。今日は、皆の卒業式をしました。この日は、皆で日本語の歌を歌って楽しみました。生徒達とのお別れは寂しいですが、今後は小さな美術スクールでの日本語のクラスをお手伝いすることになっています。小さい子対象なので、また別の意味で難しいですが、がんばっていこうと思っています。

Bon Festival / 盆踊り会

There was a Japanese bon dance festival. Some art students and Japanese students from Small Art School attended the event as volunteers. There was a dance lesson before the event,so Khmer students were dancing better than me. Students from the youth center also came all the way from their village (about one hour bicycle ride to the city). They enjoy experience Japanese culture.

シェムリアップで、日本人会主宰による第３回の盆踊り会が開催されました。小さな美術スクールに通う生徒達もボランティアとして参加してくれました。事前に、盆踊りのレッスンにも参加したらしく、私以上にちゃんと踊れていました。私は、悲しいことにドラえもん音頭ぐらいしか踊れませんでした。青少年会館で日本語を勉強している生徒達も、遠いところ、一同そろって来てくれました。このように、日本文化に触れる機会を持てて、生徒達も、日本からの皆様も、とても楽しい時間を過ごせました。

Mural Project at SHCC /　壁画プロジェクトPart 3

We finally completed the mural art. Students, staff and parents in the village liked the mural. When teacher Tomoko comes back from Japan in November, we will continue the mural on the side. We are hoping that the children in village hold their hands together and support each other like the logo.

ついに完成も近づいてきました。細かいところは、刷毛ではやりにくいので、硬い筆をいくつか学校から持って来て、ロゴマークの仕上げをしました。子ども達やスタッフ、ご父兄の方々もセンター初めての壁画にとてもよろこんでくれていました。ロゴマークのように、人と人が手を取り合って、協力して生活しているこの村の子ども達が、元気に育っていってくれるといいなとスタッフ一同願っています。

Cutting paper cards / 切り絵カード作品

Hay Chheom has such a skill for paper cutting art. He keeps bringing more art works to the school. One day, he brought 3 cards for Teacher Tomoko. He wanted to express his appreciation to her. Not only providing art supplies and teaching art technique, but also Teacher Tomoko is generously supporting him and his family.

Teacher Tomoko told me that she received the cards in Japan and her family were all impressed his message and art works.

生徒のハイ君（１８才）は、次々とカードサイズの切り絵を作って来てくれます。ある日、日本に一時帰国している美術の知子先生に感謝の気持ちを伝えたいと３枚もカードを持って来ました。カンボジアの郵便事情はあまりよくないので、ちょっと郵送するのを躊躇しましたが、無事に到着してくれることを願って、日本へ郵送しました。先日、無事に知子先生のお手元に届いたと聞いてほっとしました。

Gift for Japanese contest winners / 日本語コンクールの優勝賞品贈呈

There was a first Japanese contest in Siem Reap. There were two sections : Reading stories and short play. Small Art School donated T shirts designed by our student, Hay Chheom. We printed them one color and Hay put some colors one by one. He was such an artist to complete them such a short notice. He and other art students attended this event since they are also learning Japanese. Hope they can entry this Japanese contest next year.

シェムリアップで初めての日本語コンクールが開催されました。日本大使館後援、日本人教師会主宰で、朗読の部とスキットの部に別れて行われました。選考会で見事にコンクール出場のチケットを手に入れた生徒達はみんなとても上手でした。朗読の部では、桃太郎、竹取物語、クモの糸などの日本文学を朗読しました。スキットの部は、２人から４人がグループになり、指定の言葉を使って劇を演じました。こちらのコンクールで、小さな美術スクールの生徒作品をTシャツにして、優勝賞品として贈呈いたしました。生徒のハイ君は、一色にプリントされたTシャツを、一枚一枚丁寧に色をつけてくれました。とても綺麗に仕上がりました。

Small Art School Article on Cambodia Guide book

Teacher Tomoko wrote an article about the Small Art School on Cambodia Guide book "Krorma Vol. 17". Mural Project at SHCC /　壁画プロジェクトPart 2

In the morning when we get there, preschool students were singing songs and learning English by volunteer teachers from Australia. They are fortunate to be able to learn from native English speakers from the early age. Students will be able to speak English fluently very soon.

We started painting the logo on the wall. Japanese interpreter Mr. Hea and Art Coordinator at SHCC draw the center's name "Self Help Community Center" in Khmer. They did a great job for that. Some students joined after finishing their schools.

朝、センターに到着すると、教室の中からは、歌や英語を習う子ども達の声が響いていました。西洋人のボランティアがたくさんきていて、動物の名前やアルファベットを大声で教えていました。子ども達に元気に復唱して、こんなに早い時期から英語を習っているので、バイリンガルに育つ生徒がたくさんいるだろうなと思います。

壁画の方も順調に色づけを始めました。一番肝心なセンターの名前をカンボジア語で書く作業から始まりました。小さな美術スクールの通訳兼日本語教師のヒーアさんとセンターのアートコーディネーターの二人がそちらは担当してくれました。小学校のクラウを終えた生徒達が戻って来て、サパット君たちも絵の部分を手伝ってくれました。

Music Class at Oh village / オー村音楽教室

I joined Oh Village’s music class. I could not go there for a while because of flood, holidays, etc. So I was very happy to meet students there. I was very surprised their progress. Now they can read codes and can play music very well. Teacher Mr. and Mrs. Urusibara also got other music instruments such as small drams, tambourines, wooden drum and so on. So students had an opportunity to play with them as well.

雨期に入って、洪水やら祝日やらでなかなかお伺いできなかったオー村の音楽授業に久しぶりに参加させて頂きました。子ども達は、だいぶ楽譜も読めるようになっていて、とても楽しそうに演奏していました。別の楽器の寄付もあったそうで、タンバリン、太鼓、鈴、木魚なども順番に使っていました。こちらに教えにいらしている漆原先生ご夫妻は、日本語と音楽と週２回の授業に加え、年１回の遠足や新年会、奨学金支給もされている本当に村の人々達の大きな力になっています。

Flood in Siem Reap / シェムリアップが洪水

Last year in September, there was a big flood in Siem Reap. It was my first week in Siem Reap and I could not go anywhere. We had heavy raining days and flood this month again. In the morning, when I was about to leave home, I saw the river in front of the house. I tried to ride my bicycle, but it was impossible and dangerous. I gave up riding my bicycle and took 30 minutes to walk to my work place. Although, children are happy with it. They were catching fishes, swimming, riding a boat. They are brave!!

昨年９月も大きな洪水がありましたが、今年も川が氾濫するほどの大きな雷雨、洪水が起きてしまいました。朝外に出かけようとしたら、家の前が川、他の道も一面の水浸し。膝ほどまでの水が溜まってしまって、自転車をこぐのも危険なので、いつもは５分とかからない道のりを３０分もかかって歩いて行きました。こんな状況でも子ども達に取っては、楽しい経験で、魚を探す子たち、樽をボートにして遊ぶ子、もちろん泳ぐ子達もいて、子ども達の元気な笑い声が響き渡っていました。

Mural Project at SHCC /　壁画プロジェクトPart 1

While teacher Tomoko is back in Japan, we thought about something what we can do together at SHCC. We had an idea to draw their logo design at the preschool class building which was donated by Italian NGO. SHCC will have an opening ceremony in November 2010. So it is very good timing. Teacher Tomoko measured the size and instructed us. First of all, we made squares and draft. It is very exciting to see their logo mural on their front building.

美術の先生が日本に５週間お帰りになっている間に、何か生徒達と一緒にできないかと思い、SHCCの幼稚園校舎の壁に彼らのロゴマークを描くことになりました。先生にしっかりとやり方を教わり、チョークでマスメを作る作業から始めました。校舎は、イタリアの非営利団体が寄付したそうで、今年の１１月にその団体を呼んで完成披露セレモニーをすると伺っていたので、その前に取りかかれてよかったです。下書きを終えて、来週はペンキで色付けします。

Candle package design by orphanage children Part 2

We came back to the orphanage center again for the candle package design. This time, we brought origami papers and let children to do paper cutting art. They selected three different color origami papers and designed flowers. They enjoyed cutting papers and making beautiful flowers. Their designs were very unique and we are excited to see the candle products with their flower design near future.

キャンドルパッケージデザインのために、再度孤児院を訪れました。今回は、折り紙を切って花の絵をデザインしてもらいました。各３枚ずつ色紙を選んで、それぞれの花を描いていました。子ども達は、綺麗な花の完成にとても満足していました。近い将来、商品がお店で並ぶ日が楽しみです。

Provided tables for NCCC children

Children at New Child Care Center were using only one table for drawing class. 12 children were always so crowded and did not enough space to open their sketchbooks and painting sets. Teacher Tomoko and I thought it would be good for them to have extra tables. So we used the money from crayon for kids supporters to buy 2 extra tables. Now, they have enough space to sit and open their sketchbooks on the tables. Thank you very much for your generous support.

NCCCの子ども達は、孤児院内にある一つの大きなテーブルを使って授業を受けていました。１２人の生徒がスケッチブックを広げて座るには狭すぎて、十分にパレットや絵の具を置く場所もありませんでした。そこで、クレヨン for キッズの皆様からお預かりしているお金の一部を使って、テーブルを２台寄贈することにしました。今では、生徒達がゆったりとスペースと画用紙、絵の具等を置く場所も確保できて、広々とした環境で絵の授業を楽しんでいます。

Beautiful Bayon in raining season / 雨期のバイヨン

We go to Angkor Krau village community center every other Saturdays. On the way there, we need to pass Angkor Wat temples and Bayon. It is one of my favorite time to see these temples on the way there. Especially, raining season is so beautiful. The light of the sun, trees and animals welcome us to the gates.

アンコールクラウ村コミュニティーセンターへ隔週で絵を教えに行っています。コミュニティーセンターへは、必ずアンコールワットの中を通って行かなければなりません。道の途中で見る遺跡は、季節に寄って景色を変えて、見る人を楽しませてくれます。特に雨期の時期は、こけが全面に広がって、絶景です。太陽の光、生い茂った木々、自然の動物たちが門へ迎え入れてくれているようです。

These days, students bring their handmade gifts to the Small Art School. Hay brought car stickers and we put them on our car. They are very beautiful. Bunthai brought a paper baskets with some message. We are very happy to see these dedicated and talented students.

最近、美術スクールの生徒達が、手作りのプレゼントを持って来てくれました。ハイ君は、得意の切り絵で学校名が入ったステッカーを作ってくれました。ほれぼれするほど綺麗な作品です。ブンタイ君は、友達と一緒に折り紙でかごを作って、メッセージを添えて持って来てくれました。小さな美術スクールに喜んで通って来てくれている生徒から、こうした心のこもった手作りプレゼントはとても嬉しいです。

Hay designed for Soaps / 石けんのパッケージデザイン

Small Art School's art student, Hay, was requested to design for soaps by Kru Khmer. The company was founded by a Japanese entrepreneur, Ms. Shinoda who wants to produce "Made in Cambodia" products. Her products use Khmer traditional herbs and natural resources such as coconuts, lemongrass and more. Her bath salt design was awarded in the states.

Ms. Shinoda recognized Hay's art talent and skills. So, she requested him to make 5 different designs for soaps. Now it will be at the souvenir shops in Siem Reap. We are all excited for the products and hope many people like the design.

小さな美術スクールの美術生徒のハイ君が、Kru Khmerというカンボジア産商品を制作、販売している会社から、石けんのパッケージデザインを依頼されました。Kru Khmerのオーナー篠田さんは、社会起業家としてカンボジアの伝統医療（カンボジア語でKru Khmerと言うそうです）を学び、バスソルト、石けん、キャンドルなどを制作しております。すでに商品化されている商品のパッケージもとても素敵です。バスソルトのデザインは、ニューヨークの日本人デザイナーによるもので、アート系のコンテストで、今年パッケージデザイン金賞を取ったそうです。ハイ君がデザインした石けんもすでにシェムリアップのお土産屋さんに並んでいます。お店の人によると、とても評判が良く、５つのデザインのうち、３つが売り切れてしまっていました。今後も生徒達よるアートが町に並ぶ日がくると思うと楽しみでなりません。

Candle Package designs by orphanage children Part 1

The Small Art School went to an orphanage center in Siem Reap. We taught how to draw flowers. This class was requested by an owner of Kru Khmer. They are producing candles with flower designs by orphans. There were about 30 children who attended the art class. We provided art supplies and they started drawing freely. Most children have never learned art, but they enjoy drawing their creative flowers.

シェムリアップにある孤児院に出張美術授業へ行ってきました。授業のテーマは、花です。この授業は、Kru Khmerさんが孤児院の子ども達の絵を使ったキャンドルを作りたいとのことで、行われました。約３０人ほどの子ども達が、それぞれのアイデアで花を描いていました。

2nd Art Scholarship Student / 二人目のアート奨学生

It is happy to introduce 2nd Art Scholarship student, Bunthai, 19 years old. He is a high school student. His drawings are really creative and unique. He often draws landscape, animals, nature and Angkor Wat. He is also a member of Cambodia National Youth center volunteer and active for community service. He is talented not only arts, but also music and languages. He is studying English, Korean and Japanese. I appreciate Crayon for Kids supporters to sponsor him as a 2nd art student.

二人目のクレヨン for キッズのアート奨学生をご紹介致します。地元高校に通う１９歳のブンタイ君です。以前も彼の作品をご紹介していますが、彼の作品は、とても独創的でユニークです。中国を想像させるような風景画や、動物、自然、アンコールワットを独自な発想で描いています。彼は、カンボジア国立青少年会館のボランティアでもしており、得意の英語を活かして、外国の生徒との国際交流や音楽、語学の勉強にもとても意欲的な青年です。サポーターの方々のご支援によって、こうして美術を習う生徒を皆様と一緒に応援できることを大変嬉しく思います。

New Child Care Center / NCCC孤児院での美術授業

We go to the New Child Care Center on every other Saturdays. There are about 14 orphans and they live in the suburb of Siem Reap. It is really peaceful and quiet environment there. Their home is surrounded by rice fields and there are many cows and water buffaloes.

A Khmer grandmother is taking a good care of these children and they are all very friendly and polite.

ニューチャイルドケア孤児院には、隔週土曜日絵を教えに行っています。約１４人の孤児達がシェムリアップ郊外にある家で一緒に生活しています。街から少し離れれば、周りは美しい田園風景が広がり、こちらの周りでも牛や水牛などが近くを歩いていてとてものどかです。カンボジア人のおばあちゃんが子どもの面倒を良く見ていて、子ども達はとてもきちんとしていて礼儀正しい子ばかりです。

Krobei Riel Community / クロベイリエル村

We go to Self Help Community Center in Krobei Riel on every Wednesday. It is quite exciting day for us to go there. We found many talented craft women in the village and Teacher Tomoko requested a lady to make some baskets and table clothes for souvenir for her friends in Japan. The art class is really organized now and students help to set up and cleaning up every after class. Children are very helpful. These children are not waiting for the order, but they find themselves what they can do. We are very happy to meet these children there.

毎週水曜日にクロベイリエル村にあるコミュニティーセンターへ絵の授業へ行きます。この村に行く楽しみは、いろいろな村人との出会いです。この町の多くの女性は、籐籠編みが得意で知子先生は、働く女性支援のため、日本の友達へのお土産に籠や、ランチョンマットなどをリクエストしました。すごく手がこっていて、丈夫にできています。センターでの絵の授業もだいぶやり方がわかってきて、生徒達も良く手伝ってくれます。このセンターの子ども達のすごいところは、自主的に自分ができることを率先して行います。このような子ども達がカンボジアにたくさん育って行ってほしいと願っています。

Hay showed his another art talent. He designed for Small Art School and made a gift for his foreign friend who left Siem Reap. Teacher said that Hay has such a gift of art and challenge any art technique and style. He told me and teacher Tomoko that his art works were not recognized by anyone and he had almost lost his hope for art. We are happy to meet him before he gives up his art.

ハイ君が別の美術の才能を見せて驚かせてくれました。小さな美術スクールと国に帰る外国人の友達へのプレゼントとして、切り絵の作品を作ってくれました。先生は、彼はどんな画材でも使いこなし、未知の才能があるとおっしゃっています。彼は、今まで誰にも彼の作品を評価されず、絵を描くことを諦めようとしたこともあったそうです。彼が今、自信と希望を持って美術制作に真摯に取り組んでいる姿はとても輝いています。

Since Small Art School teacher started the art class at SHCC in May, students are rapidly growing their interests of arts and skills. Teacher Tomoko decided to provide the art sets for 40 children. Thanks to Crayon for kids supporters, we could provide better art supplies for these students. Students appreciated to have their own bags. Many international volunteers from all over the world have been supporting SHCC and we will send these drawings' photos to them.

５月より出前美術授業を行っているSHCCの子ども達は、週一回の絵の授業をとても楽しみにしており、メキメキと美術能力を高めて行っています。そういう生徒達には、きちんとした画材道具を支給したいという先生の思いもあり、クレヨンforキッズのサポーターの皆様からご支援頂いたお金で、一人一人バッグに入れた美術道具セットを４０人に支給しました。生徒達は、各自絵の具、クレヨン、パレット、鉛筆、消しゴムと一式は行っているバッグに大変喜んでいました。皆様のご支援のおかげととても感謝しております。SHCCに訪れたことのある世界各国からのボランティア達も、子ども達の絵にとても興味を持っているようで、その絵を自分の国の子ども達にも見せたいと言っているそうです。

出前授業を行っている孤児院の子ども達を小さな美術スクールに招待しました。

いつもは、限られたスペースで屋外授業を行っていますが、学校では広々と、雨風をしのげる環境で授業ができて、子ども達も大喜びでした。この日は、折り紙を切って、貼付けたりして、素敵な折り紙アートを制作しました。

High School Student art works / 高校生作品

We have several high school students who have great art talents. The Artist who draw the Angkor Wat is 19 years old, Bunthai. I met him at the music band in 2009. He is interested in learning art, music and languages. He is challenging himself to experience other art techniques with teacher Tomoko.

The other art work is a high school student, Hay. His art theme is about Khmer's tragedy: Khmer Rouge. He is a young generation who have heard and learned Khmer history and he wanted to express about it. His art talent is gifted and it is quite exciting to see his other art works.

They are now learning Japanese three times a week at the Small Art School with me. They are very enthusiastic and passionate students.

アンコールワットを描いた生徒は、１９歳のブンタイくん。ブラスバンドのメンバーとして昨年出会ってから、彼の多方面の才能にいつも驚かされています。音楽だけでなく、アート、語学、そしてボランティアにも積極的に参加して、外国からの生徒との交流などもしています。主にデッサンを好んでいましたが、最近は油絵や水彩などにも小さな美術スクールで先生に指導されながら、個性豊かな作品を作り出しています。

もう２枚の絵は、以前にもご紹介したアート奨学生のハイ君１８歳の作品です。約６５cm×５０cmの大きなキャンバスに、えんぴつだけでこれ程細かい絵を描ける集中力は、すごいエネルギーを感じます。これらの絵のテーマは、カンボジアが経験した悲劇、ポルポト時代の人々の悲しみなどを描いているそうです。彼らの制作意欲は止まることなく、他にも次々と作品を描いています。計り知れない可能性を持った若きアーティスト達をこれからも応援していきたいと思います。

ちなみに、彼らは週３回の日本語のクラスにも熱心に参加する生徒達です。彼らの将来がとても楽しみです。カンボジアの子ども達の学ぶ意欲と熱意に励まされながら、私もがんばらなければと思う毎日です。

It is very exciting to exhibit students' drawings at Small Art School Gallery. There are art works from Angkor Krau Village Community center, Self Help Community Center, New Child Care Center and Small Art School. The gallery became such a colorful, passionate and unique place with students' arts. We are planning to open to the public soon.

Design for the Other 90% / 世界を変えるデザイン

When I was in Japan, I was recommended this book called "Design for the Other 90%". This book introduces many products and ideas for changing people's lives. It also introduces the idea of "American Assistance for Cambodia/Japan Relief for Cambodia" for motor internet access. Artists and designers are very meaningful not only to enrich our lives, but also saving many people's lives.

日本へ里帰りしていた際、「世界を変えるデザイン」という本を薦められました。この本は、開発途上国の人々の生活を大きく変えた商品やアイデアを紹介しています。この本の中には、Team Boravuthが奨学金支援をしているAmerican Assistance for Cambodiaの活動も紹介されていました。アーティストやデザイナーは、私たちの生活を豊かにするだけでなく、多くの人々の命も救っているのだとこの本から強く感じました。

Received art supplies donation / 画材をご提供頂きました

It is very difficult to find art supplies in Cambodia. Art teacher is spending a lot of money to prepare for art supplies for more than 200 art students. She also make efforts to find reasonable supplies and sometimes she uses recycle cardboards and plastic for classes. I decided to request some art supplies shops in Japan if they have unneeded art supplies.

One of art shop contacted me back and generously sent me their unused art supplies.

These were all new and high quality art supplies. We appreciate them.

日本で簡単に手に入る画材がなかなか手に入りません。先生は、２００人以上の生徒一人一人にスケッチブック、絵の具、クレヨンを配布しているため、相当の資金がかかってしまっています。いろいろ工夫して、ダンボール紙や新聞紙、石なども美術の授業に取り入れたりしています。そこで、日本に帰る機会にどこかの画材屋さんに不要な画材をご提供頂けないかと思い、いくつかの画材屋さんに問い合わせたところ、仙台にある画材販売.jp様から画材をご提供頂きました。どれも新品で高価な画材で、大変感謝しております。ありがとうございました。

On July 7th, we celebrated Tanabata. This festival started in China.

We believe that if we make a wish on Tanabata, the wish come true.

Japanese students decorated a bamboo tree with origami papers and wishes.

七夕祭りのお祝いを日本語の生徒と一緒にしました。

生徒達は七夕のお話を聞いて、短冊にたくさんの願い事を書いていました。

中には、日本語の先生になりたいという願いを書いていた生徒もいました。

子ども達の願いが少しでも叶うと良いなと思います。

Art Scholarship student / 美術奨学生のご紹介

Thanks to generous supporters, I have been providing some financial support to the Small Art school and some other schools in Cambodia. These schools could buy art supplies such as sketchbooks, crayons and others in need. It is very fortunate to meet people who have same goals that promoting art education for Khmer Children and the money was used effectively.

I have also taught how to support individual art students who have potential talent.

Since around January 2010, one of high school student, Hay, started learning at Small Art School. Art teacher Tomoko quickly noticed his potential art talent when she saw his drawings. We are very excited to find such a young talented artist. Although, he was absent from the art class quite often. He said he was very busy helping his mother who is working at laundry.

It is quite common here that children can not study or go to school because of family. So I decided to provide him $10 per month for a year from the money I have collected from supporters. The art scholarship will be able to help him to buy his own art supplies and spend more time for drawings.

サポーターの皆様からお預かりしたお金は、小さな美術スクールや他の団体や学校に提供しています。学校の方で、生徒にとって必要な画材や教材を選んでいただいてます。美術教育促進という共通の目的を持った方々とお会いできたことに寄って、お預かりした貴重なお金も有意義に活かされていると思います。

小さな美術スクールで多くの才能ある学生と出会い、生徒たちの将来が少しでも開けられるようなサポートができればと思うようになってきました。そこで、皆様からお預かりしているお金の一部を奨学金として支給することに致しました。生徒の家庭環境、美術能力などを十分に考慮して、１８歳の高校生のハイ君をまず一人目の奨学生としようと思います。彼は、今年１月より友達の紹介で小さな美術スクールにくるようになったのですが、先生も驚くほどの実力と才能を持っています。授業に休みがちなので、聞いてみると、彼は母子家庭で、母親の仕事（洗濯屋で一日の収入は多くて2.5ドルほど）を手伝っているそうです。先日の大雨で、家の屋根が破損し、雨漏りがひどくて、描いていた水彩画を台無しにしてしまったそうです。

彼には、月１０ドルの奨学金を１年間（計１２０ドル）支給しようと思います。彼自身が絵を描くのに必要な画材を買ったりできるようになれば、より彼の表現世界もより広がるのではないかと期待しています。今後も彼だけでなく、たくさんの生徒作品をご紹介していきたいと思います。

Used clothes distribution / 古着を子ども達に配布

Teacher Tomoko has been collecting used clothes from her friends in Japan. We brought these clothes to Angkor Krau Village community center and distributed them. Children were very happy to choose a cloth their own. Some children tried on the cloth and fit very well with them.

知子先生が日本の方々から頂いた子ども達の古着がだいぶ集まって来たので、アンコールクラウ村へ持って行き、配布しました。子ども達は自分たちのサイズに合った服を自分で選び、とても嬉しそうでした。何人かの子ども達は早速その場で着ていました。

Great Recycle idea at SHCC / リサイクル案

SHCC has a great idea for recycle plastic bags. In Cambodia, cans, plastic bottles, cardboard and bins are able to recycle. Unfortunately, plastic bags are everywhere as trash after use because they can not recycle. I was very surprised when I heard about recycle idea of plastic bags at SHCC as cushions. SHCC organizes cleaning up event in the community and they collect plastic bags and put them into cushion cases. Children feel more comfortable on the cushion than floor while they study at the center.

SHCCは、プラスチックバッグをユニークなアイデアでリサイクルしています。カンボジアでは、缶、瓶、プラスチックボトル、ダンボール箱ならリサイクルでき、人々（子ども達も）がお金に換金するために回収しています。プラスチックバッグは、以前スピーチコンテストに出たハソヴァンくんのテーマにもありましたが、使い終わった後はゴミとなり、環境を汚しています。SHCCはそのプラスチックバッグを集めて、クッションの中に入れてリサイクルしているそうです。子ども達は、床の上で勉強するよりも、こうして作られたクッションの上で勉強する方がずっと心地よいです。

NHK Mission がカンボジアのNGO紹介

NHKの番組の地球ドキュメントMISSIONでJapan Relief for Cambodia/American Assistance for Cambodiaが行っている活動が紹介されました。私はこのNGOをTeam Boravuthを立ち上げた２００９年１月に見つけてから、Girls Be Ambitiousというカンボジアの女の子の奨学金プログラムをサポートしています。番組では、カンボジアの無医村に住む患者を、E-mailを使ってプノンペンや海外の医者に連絡し、治療方法などを見つける様子が報道されていました。カンボジアに住んでいても、農村などへはなかなか道も整っていないので、簡単に行くことができないのが現状です。７,０００人に１人の割合でしか医者がいないため、医療に携わる人の奮闘する様子が伝わってきました。

Small children collect recycle cans

A few times a month, we hear the door bell early morning. When we go to check, there are some children who come to pick up some recycle cans and plastic bottle. Many of them came from very far. Sometimes, children do not go to school because of work. It is quite often that children are walking bare feet. They share equally what they get. It is very pity that children in such early age have to work for living.

月の何回か、朝早くドアベルが鳴って見に行くと、子ども達がドアの向こうで待ってます。リサイクル（販売）できるカンやプラスチックのボトルを集めに来るのです。聞くとかなりの距離の農村から歩いて来たそうです。５人でじゃんけんをして、公平にカンやボトルを分けていました。中には学校に行けなくなった子もいるようでした。このような子ども達の親は、カンボジア語の読み書きもできない人が多く、子どもを働き手として街に送り出しています。知子先生が、せめてカンボジア語の読み書きが勉強できるようにとノートをプレゼントしました。このような幼い子ども達が学校に行けずに、暑い中はだしで仕事しなければならない環境が少しでも良くなればと願っています。

日本語を学びに来ている生徒達に、カンボジアについて書いてもらいました。中学生から中には４７歳の４人の娘さんのお母さんまで来てくれています。実際に書いてもらったのは、ひらがなで書かれていますが、読みやすくするために漢字に変えてご紹介します。

私の国についてダーネット(写真左前）

私の国はカンボジアです。東南アジアにあります。面積は、１８１，０３５平方キロメートルです。全部の国境は、２，６００キロメートルです。タイとベトナムとラオスの近くにあります。

首都は、プノンペンです。カンボジアは天然資源が豊富な国です。例えば、林と山と川と谷があります。カンボジアは、暑いとしつけの国です。カンボジアは、二つの大きな季節があります。雨期と乾期です。雨期は、５月から１０月までです。乾期は、１１月から４月までです。農家は１年に２回、田んぼをしています。雨期も乾期もします。そして、たくさんの田んぼが多い場所は、バッタンバンです。

カンボジアでシェムリアップは一番、遺跡が多くて、お客さんもたくさんいます。とても有名な遺跡は、アンコールワットです。日本語のガイドや、フランス語のガイドや英語のガイドがたくさんいます。

カンボジアの宗教は仏教です。でもいろいろな宗教があります。カンボジア人は仏教を信じています。キリスト教とイスラム教は少ないです。お正月とお盆にお寺に行かなければなりません。お坊さんに料理をあげます。

あの日に皆さんは全部自分の田舎へ帰って、両親や友達と一緒にお寺へ行きます。たくさんの人がいますから、お寺でとてもにぎやかで、楽しいです。

私の国の小さいですが、いろいろな物があります。そして、きれいで、楽しい国です。私はカンボジアがとてもとても大好きです。

SHCC Community Event / 農村での交流会に参加

There was a community event at SHCC on Sunday 13th. They invited family, children, monks, staff, volunteers, and more. Many children are taking free education such as English, Japanese, music, sports and art. There are some qualified social worker from overseas and they are educating local staff to be social workers. Students and one of parents had speeches and showed their appreciation to the center and supporters.

農村にあるNGOの交流会に参加しました。子どもだけでなく、親やお寺のお坊さん、スタッフやボランティア、寄付提供者なども参加した大きなイベントでした。現在約９００人ほどの子ども達が、英語や日本語、スポーツや音楽やアートのクラスを受けています。このNGOにはヨーロッパやオーストラリアからのソーシャルワーカーが地元のスタッツ育成に来ています。

Angkor Crau Community Center Art class

May 29th, Teacher Tomoko and I went to the Angkor Crau Community Center for an art class. Last time, we distributed cardboards to draw something about their Khmer New Year. There were about 45 children and they continued the cardboard drawings. Teacher explained how to use water painting materials and children learned to use water palette. Some were drawing dancing people, some were drawing people who were playing games etc. Through their arts, we can learn Khmer culture and what children enjoy in their lives. Children are also excited to get candies from Teacher Tomoko after the class.

アンコールワットの東北にあるアンコールクラウ村コミュニティーセンター(JSTによる支援）へ行きました。前回、ダンボール箱を切って、その上にカンボジアのお正月について描きましたので、今日はその仕上げをしました。この日は、４５人ほどの子ども達が、絵の具の使い方を習い、いろいろな色を混ぜたりして、お正月のゲームや踊っている人の絵を描いていました。カンボジアの子ども達がお正月どのように過ごしたかが見れてとても楽しい絵でした。授業の終わりには、先生から頂く飴も子ども達の楽しみの一つです。

New Child Care Center Art lesson / 孤児院美術教室

Saturday, May 22nd, Teacher and I went to the New Child Care Center (an orphanage center which is supported by Japanese NGO) for the art lesson. Children welcomed us with friendly smiles. They were very excited to Teacher Tomoko because she was in Japan for about a month. Teacher told children to draw something about their Khmer New Year. When we finished distributing sketchbooks, crayons and pencils, weather changed suddenly. It was very windy and children escaped to their room at upstairs. When the wind stopped, time came to end of the class. Although we could not have an regular art class because of the bad weather condition, it worth to see children's smiles. We were moved when children were waving hands until we go far by Tuk Tuk.

22日土曜日、New Child Care Center孤児院での美術教室に行ってきました。知子先生が日本にお帰りになっていた約１ヶ月間は、授業がなかったので、子ども達は、クラスをとても楽しみにしていて、大きな笑顔で出迎えてくれました。画用紙やクレヨンを配り終わり、先生が「では今日は、みなさんのお正月で一番楽しかった出来事を描いてください」と伝えた直後に、天候が突然悪くなり、ものすごい強風で、授業ができなくなってしまいました。カンボジア式高床式住居の下の部分で、壁のない外での授業なので、子ども達はとりあえず画材を持って部屋に避難。私たちは、荷物が飛ばないように風が治まるまで荷物を押さえていました。雨期にはこういうことも体験するようです。やっと風が止まった頃には、すでに帰らなくては行けない時間になってしまて、残念でしたが、子ども達は私たちが帰った後、見えなくなるまで手を振ってくれている姿を見て、来た甲斐があったと思いました。

Oh Village Music Class / オー村音楽教室

May 27th, I accompanied with Japanese teachers Ryuichi & Kyoko to teach music at Oh village on Thursdays. They have collected donated Pianikas from Japanese elementary schools. There were about 50 children who were selected from 5th grade. Cambodian public schools do not have music class, so children have never learned music before. The first lesson was to play from do, re, mi, fa, so, ra, shi, and do. Children enjoyed planning how to play music.
５月27日、日本語を教えてらっしゃる隆一先生と恭子先生が、オー村の子ども達に毎週木曜日ピアニカを教えに行くと伺ったので、見学してきました。日本の小学校から寄付されたピアニカを綺麗に清掃して、一人一台配られ、子ども達はピアニカの弾き方、ド、レ、ミ、ファ、ソ、ラ、シ、ドを習いました。指がなかなか動かない子もいましたが、最後には皆上手に引けるようになりました。村の子ども達は、街の子ども達に比べて、楽器を習ったり、美術を体験する機会がほとんどありません。こうした日本人の先生方が、村に出向いて授業をしてくださることは、村の子ども達にとっても本当に幸運なことだと思います。

Art Lesson started at Self Help Community Center

Self Help Community Center (SHCC) is the local NGO which provides educational and vocational opportunities as well as recreational activities to over 800 disadvantaged rural children and young adults in Puok District, Siem Reap, Cambodia.
I introduced the director Mr. Sambath to the art teacher Tomoko. She was very impressed the community based local center and decided to go there to teach arts every Wednesday. There were about 55 children who attend for the first art lesson. In addition, the Khmer-Japanese interpreter Mr. Hea started Japanese lesson after the art lesson. I am very happy to make the connection with SHCC and these experienced teachers for the center.

Self Help Community Center は、シェムリアップ郊外にある村のNGOコミュニティーセンターです。現在は約８００人の子ども達に、無料で語学教室や、職業訓練、音楽教室などを行っています。先日訪問したときに、知子先生がやっている美術教室の紹介をしたら、ディレクターのサムバスさんは、とても興味を持ったので、知子先生がお戻りになってから、ご紹介しました。知子先生も、そこのセンターの使命、理念、カンボジア人の手による活動などを大変感心され、毎週水曜日に絵の授業をすることを決断されました。現在ご自分の「小さな美術スクール」での授業に加え、２カ所の孤児院、２カ所のコミュニティーセンターと４カ所の出張授業をされています。この日は、約５５人の生徒達が生まれて初めて渡されたスケッチブックとクレヨンで、様々な絵を描いていました。先生の日本語通訳のヒーアさんが絵の授業の後に、ボランティアで日本語を教えることになりました。こうして、経験と技術のある先生方をこのセンターにご紹介できたことは大変嬉しいです。

The Royal Ploughing Ceremony / 耕起祭

I had an opportunity to attend the Royal Ploughing Ceremony, which is one of the important royal traditions of the annual royal ceremonies held each year, is considered to be a marvelous blessing on the sowing [of the rice crops] for Khmer People. Each king has always led the celebration from ancient times until now. This royal ceremony is celebrated to encourage power and happiness in the planting of the rice-crop and to pray to the mighty spirits to drop sufficient seasonal rainfall, which can help all agricultural sectors so that the farmers achieve high yields. This ceremony was held in Phnom Penh for more than 20 years, so people in Siem Reap were so excited to attend this royal ceremony at the Angkor Wat. I could see the King so close!!

王室式典の最高伝統の一つである耕起祭に出席することができました。農業国カンボジアは、米などの豊作は、天の恵みである考えます。この王室の式典は、歴代の王によって、古代から行われています。米作を植える際に力と幸福を促して、十分な雨量を得られることを祈願するために祝われます。そして、農民が高収率を成し遂げるように、それはすべての農民を助けることができます。この式典は歴代プノンペンで開催されたので、シェムリアップの人々はアンコールワットでこの王室来賓の式典に出席するためにとても興奮していました。私も、国王をとても間近で見ることができて興奮しました!!

Water for Cambodia / カンボジアに安全な水を

I visited an water laboratory "Water for Cambodia" to provide water filters. This laboratory is supported by MIddletown Rotary charitable trust. According to them, 65% of Cambodia's rural population does not have access to clean water. 20% of the deaths of children under the age of 5 are due to waterborne diseases. The filter is used many developing countries such as Southeast Asia and Africa. Each filter costs $50 to build and install, lasting years with very little maintenance.

Self Help Community Center ／ NGO 見学

I happened to find Self Help Community Center (SFCC) by chance at google. I was surprised when I found it because the logo of Team Boravuth was so similar. I contacted with the director Sambath via e-mail and made an appointment to visit there. The center was about 30 minutes from Siem Reap and have many children to learn English, play soccer, grow vegetable etc. I was very impressed Sambath's effort to make this center successful and sustainable. Hope some children who like arts can come to the art class at Small Art School. It would be nice to collaborate with them near future. Check their video below. It shows what I see daily life in Cambodia.

シェムリアップ付近のNGOを探していたら、偶然Self Help Community Center (SFCC) を見つけました。ウェブサイトを見てまず驚いたのが、１年前Team Boravuthを始めたときに考えたロゴとたくさんの類似点があったことです。早速ディレクターのサムバスさんと連絡を取って、会いに行くことにしました。シェムリアップからは約３０分ほどで、村の子ども達約４５０人が通いに来て英語やサッカーを海外から来るボランティアの人やカンボジア人スタッフと学んでいました。これだけの施設と子ども達をやりくりするのは財政的にも大変なことですが、サムバスさんの努力と情熱によってここまで成長できたのだと思います。今後ここの村からも絵を習いにきてもらえると嬉しいです。下記のビデオをクリックしてご覧下さい。

Day trip to Kampong Thum/コンポントムへの日帰り旅行

I had an opportunity to visit Kampong Thum with my coworkers. It took about 3 hours from Siem Reap. There were beautiful small old temples(remains). Some were very unique shapes such as octagonal. I found a beautiful statue inside of the temple. I enjoyed explore the history of Cambodia. My coworkers are very friendly and hard workers.

会社の同僚と一緒にコンポントムへの日帰り旅行をへ行きました。シェムリアップから車で約３時間、朝５時集合で出発しました。
コンポントムには、古い遺跡群があり、中には八角形などの珍しい形の遺跡などもありとても興味深かったです。お寺の中に、なんとも神秘的な像がありました。カンボジアの歴史は本当に興味深いです。私の同僚は、皆とてもフレンドリーで働き者ばかりです。

Oh Village New Year Party / オー村新年パーティ

Khmer New Year was from April 14th - 16th this year. Many people go to visit temples, meet family and friends. Children enjoy New year games and food. I was invited to Oh village's New Year party. There were about 300 people. Japanese teachers brought many clothes, sandals, bags to donate to people in village. Mothers cooked rice porridge. We enjoyed games such as bingo, musical chairs. All ages people get along well and support each other. I am fortunate to attend the party and meet their smiles.

オー村の新年パーティーに参加させていただきました。カンボジアの新年は、４月１４日から１６日の３日間で、多くの人はお寺へ行ったり、里帰りしたりします。子ども達は新年のゲームと食事を楽しみます。オー村の新年パーティーには約３００人ほど村の人が参加しました。子どもから大人まで、ビンゴゲームや椅子取りゲームを楽しんだり、一人一品ずつ日本からの服やサンダルなどの寄付を受け取って大変喜んでいました。お昼は皆でお母さんたちが作ってくださったお粥を頂きました。皆が助け合って、イベントを楽しんでいました。

New Child Care Center Art & Origami Lesson

We took a Tuk Tuk to go to the New Child Care Center for the art lesson. My Japanese friend from Japan also joined the art class with her son. Children learned how to use crayons and water paints. They mixed many different colored and enjoyed drawing. After the art lesson, my friend's son (10 years old) taught how to make an airplane again. Children enjoyed the Origami and flying it to the air.

テュクテュクに乗って約３０分かけて、ニューチャイルドケアセンターへ美術教室へ行きました。日本からの友達も息子さんを連れて参加してくれました。子ども達はクレヨンや絵の具を上手に混ぜて絵を描けるようになりました。その後で、折り紙教室で、皆で飛行機を作って空高く飛ばしました。

It is quite beautiful to see Sun Rise and Sun Set in Siem Reap. When my parents came, we went to see Sun Rise together. It was a little bit cloudy day, so the Sun was hiding behind of the cloud. Although it was beautiful to see the view.

両親が来ていたとき、アンコールワットでの朝日を見に行きました。カンボジアでは朝日と夕日は本当に綺麗です。その日は少し曇っていたので、太陽も雲の後ろに隠れてしまっていましたが、アンコールワットから昇る朝日はとても素敵でした。

Phnom Kulen ／プノンクレーン

Phnom Kulen was one of important site for Khmer. The year 802, the king of Angkor started his kingdom from here. There are many statues such as Hindu gods and many people enjoy the water falls there.

ライチの山という意味のプノンクレーンは、８０２年にジャヤヴァルマン２世が「神なる王」の儀式を行い、７００年にも及ぶアンコール王朝が始まった場所。滝の周りには様々なヒンズー教の神などの彫刻もありました。地元の子ども達も水浴びで楽しく遊んでいました。

Battambang trip

We had a one day trip to Battambang (3 hours away from Siem Reap). Battambang is second largest city in Cambodia and famous for agriculture. We visited some tourist sites and met some unique statues.

日本からの友達と美術の先生達と一緒にバッタンバーンというカンボジアで第２の人口の街へ日帰り旅行へ行ってきました。そこはとても土地が肥沃でお米の生産地でもあります。ポルポト時代に人々の殺害場所に使われた鍾乳洞や、ポルポト時代に作られたダムなどもありました。とてもユニークな顔の像もたくさんあって、楽しい旅でした。

New Child Care Center Art Lesson

The art teacher started teaching at another orphanage center. New Child Care Center (NCCC) is supported by Japanese NGO and they have about 15 children age from 4 to 20. They enjoy drawing using many different colors. Their imagination is really unique and it is very fun to see their drawings.

美術の出張授業で、もう一つの孤児院にも行くことになりました。NCCCは日本のNGOの支援で、４歳から２０歳ぐらいの子ども達約１５人が一緒に生活しています。彼らは絵を習い始めて、いろいろな色を使って、想像力豊かな絵を描いています。見ているのがとても楽しいです。

Children at Oh village are taking Japanese lesson every Tuesday night. Their Japanese are getting better and better. They welcome us with big smiles and polite greeting. They say "Hello, How are you?" (Konnichiwa. Ogenkidesuka?) Sometimes, they bring us hand made gifts. This day, we got many gifts which made by palm leaves. They are very cute.

オー村の子ども達は毎週火曜日の日本語のレッスンに出て、めきめきの日本語を覚えて来ています。いろいろな日本の歌も覚えています。毎回素敵な笑顔と手を合掌した姿で「こんにちは、お元気ですか』と出迎えてくれます。この日はパームヤシの葉からできた素敵な手作りのプレゼントを頂きました。かわいい小さな手から受け取るときはとっても嬉しかったです。

We visited some local schools which supported by international NGOs. I had a friend from Japan the week and she brought her 10 years old son. He brought some origami papers and we made paper airplane together. We enjoyed flying the airplane.

国際NGOが支援する小学校に行ってきました。ちょうど日本からお友達が１０歳の息子さんを連れて遊びに来てくれていたので、彼が折り紙で飛行機の作り方を教えてあげました。完成後に皆で空高く飛行機を飛ばして楽しかったです。

My friend took me to an school construction site near Thai border. The school got funded from Japanese religious organization. The school will have four classrooms and a library. We met many children who are looking forward to the school in the village.

Khmer Wedding / カンボジアの結婚式

美術の出張授業をしている孤児院のスタッフお二人の結婚式に呼ばれました。カンボジアは婿養子に入るそうで、結婚式も新婦の実家で行われました。衣装替えは５回。かなりの厚化粧の新婦にびっくりしましたが、とてもお綺麗でした。ものすごい音量の音楽で、となりに座っている話も聞こえないほどでしたが、二人の幸せそうな笑顔にこちらも素敵な時間を過ごしました。

I was invited to a wedding for the orphanage center staff. I was first time to attend the Khmer wedding. In general, the Khmer weddings take place at the bride's house. The couple changed their dresses 5 times during wedding. The wedding was so noisy with music (it is really common for Khmer wedding), and we could not even hear our neighbor's conversation. The couple looked so happy together.

Japanese Speech Contest/日本語スピーチコンテスト

Boravuth's younger brother attended at Japanese speech contest in Phnom Penh on Sunday, Feb 21st. He was chosen from 143 candidates. His speech theme was "Protect the earth and environment from the trash of plastic bags". He had a great speech. Unfortunately, he could not win the prize, but I am really proud of his challenge and efforts.
A few days later, he announced me that he won a scholarship to study in Japanese university. Happy for him!!

１４３人の参加者から１４人が選ばれ、Boravuthの弟がプノンペンで行われた日本語スピーチコンテストに出場しました。彼のスピーチのタイトルは「ビニール袋のゴミから地域社会と環境を守る」で、カンボジアのゴミ問題について演説しました。残念ながら入賞はできませんでしたが、素晴らしいスピーチでした。彼の訴えが、多くのカンボジア人に届いてくれればと思います。数日後、彼から日本の大学で勉強するための奨学金試験に受かったと連絡がありました。日本で多くのことを学んで、カンボジアの将来に貢献してれることを願ってます。

IKI IKI School has finished/イキイキスクールついに完成！

February 14th, 2010. This day will be special day for more than 100 Japanese who have involved this school project. A young Japanese couple, Kade and Guriko had a dream to build a school in their favorite country, in Cambodia during their honeymoon. They have collected the money since 2007 and started to builded since Nov 2009. For about 3 months, they go to the village almost everyday to build the school. This village is really far from Siem Reap and spend about 1.5 hours one way and streets are very rough. There is no restaurant around the village, so they stop at the market to cook lunch themselves. Many have never experienced to build houses/schools, so they learned from experienced local carpenters. Weather is very hot almost everyday and the heat have damaged many Japanese people. Some got very sick and needed to stay at the international hospital. It is easy to pay money to build a school, but they provided not only for money, but also human power. More than 500 children have been waiting for a long time to school around the village. They are very excited to learn at the IKI IKI school after the raining season on Octover 2010. I could only join a few days for this project, but I am very proud of the people who have involved this school. I have never seen such a cute school. It is so original and very special for children at the village.

２０１０年２月１４日は、イキイキスクールに携わった１００人以上の日本人に取って、村人にとってもも忘れない一日になりました。かでさんとぐりこさんという方々が、新婚旅行世界一周旅行の最中に大好きなカンボジアに学校を作ろうと企画したのが２００７年頃。それからお金を集め始め、２００９年１１月についにカンボジアで学校建設を始めました。毎日片道１時間半かけて村へ出かけ、建築関係経験者は、たった数名のため、住み込みのカンボジア人大工にいろいろ教わりながら建てて行きました。村にはレストランもないので、途中市場により、お昼の材料を買いすべて自炊。連日汗を流し、３０度以上の暑さの中の土木作業は、体力的にもとてもきつかったです。慣れない外国での生活、食事、そして暑さの厳しい中での作業で体調を崩す人も何人かいたそうです。経済的に余裕があれば、お金を出して学校を建てることはなんとかできますが、こうして人とお金を集めて学校を建てる方々は本当に珍しいと思います。５００人以上の生徒が長い間学校に行くことを夢見ていました。これらの生徒は、雨期が明けた１０月にこのイキイキスクールで学ぶのを楽しみにしています。建築に参加できた日数はほんの数日ですが、かでさんとぐりこさんに出会えて、少しでもご協力できて、村の人たちの笑顔をいっぱいもらって、参加した人たちと完成を涙して喜べたことを幸せに思います。

Sang Japanese song! Nada so so/涙そうそう合唱

Students have learned Japanese song. I asked what Japanese song they want to learn and they said "Nada so so". They like this song very much. A Cambodian singer song this song with Khmer. Students age from 12 to 47 get along very well and we have Japanese lesson at the youth center 3 times a week from 6-7pm. Students are very motivated to study Japanese for their future.

今日はみんなで習ってきた歌を合唱しました。２週間前に皆に日本の歌で何を習いたいかと聞いたら、涙そうそうを歌いたいとリクエストがありました。この歌は、日本だけでなく、いろいろな国で今歌われているそうです。カンボジアの歌手も歌っているそうです。１２歳から４７歳の学生達は、みんな仲良く週３回のレッスンに通っています。自分の将来のため、日々努力して勉強しています。

It is such a pleasure to meet these smily children. I went to visit Oh Village for Japanese lesson and students always greet me. They say "Hello. How are you today?" in Japanese. Their smiles give me such a special feeling for them.

オー村へ日本語のレッスンへ行きました。子ども達は週一回のこの授業をとても楽しみにしています。学校に着くと、子ども達は合掌して「こんにちは。お元気ですか？」とほぼ全員が聞きに来てくれます。彼らの笑顔に会うたびに村に来たことの喜びを感じます。子ども達の日本語もめきめき上達しています。

Crayon for Kids update

Crayon for Kids is now officially collaborate with Small Art School in Siem Reap Cambodia. The art Teacher Tomoko has been providing free art lessons for local Khmer children since 2008. Children age 5-20 are taking drawing lessons at her art school. We support to buy art supplies such as crayons and drawing papers. Some students are developing their skills rapidly and it would be really exciting to see their progress. We are planning to have some art exchange projects with students in other countries. We are very fortunate to find these supporters and collaborators. Thank you very much for your support.

クレヨン for キッズは、カンボジア、シェムリアップで無料のアート教室を行っている先生とタイアップして、より活動を広げています。教室での美術授業に加え、１時間ほど離れた村と孤児院での出張美術教室も行っています。初めは何も描けなかった子ども達が、今ではクレヨンをグリグリさせて、自由に、のびのびと田園風景、動物、アンコールワット、アプサラダンサーなどを描いています。めきめきと上達していく生徒もいて、今後の成長が楽しみです。ギャラリーも近々オープンします。生徒達の絵が、もっと多くの人に見ていただける場を増やして行ければと思います。海外の子ども達との国際美術交流プロジェクトも準備中です。皆様のご協力、ご支援誠にありがとうございます。

Youth Volunteer Workshop with Korean students

Korean NGO organized youth volunteer workshop for Korean and Cambodian high school students. They did community service together and developed very good relationship each other. Students enjoyed learning and sharing their cultures. At the last day of workshop, they performed their talents such as singing, dancing, playing music and more. It would be great to have more opportunities for Cambodian children to exchange with foreign students. This youth center which opened end of last year by the Korean NGO has been really successful for children and the community.

韓国のNGOが韓国とカンボジアの高校生のためのスタディーツアーを行い、ユースセンターにて様々なテーマでのワークショップに参加しました。学生達はお互いの文化を理解し、良い友情関係を築いていたようです。最後の日は、歌や踊りなど民族衣装を着て演じてくれる学生もいてとても盛り上がりました。今後もこのような学生達の交流する場が増えて行くと良いなと思います。昨年末にオープンしたばかりのユースセンターは、地域の子ども達にとても喜ばれています。

Angkor Crau Village Art class

Art teacher Tomoko and I went to visit Angkor Crau village for an art class. She has been teaching there once in two weeks. Angkor Crau village is about 40 minutes, 10km from Siem Reap. There were close to 100 children at the class. All children were provided their own drawing paper and crayons. They enjoy drawing such as Angkor Wat, flowers, animals and more.

美術の知子先生と一緒にアンコールクラウ村へ出張アート教室へ行きました。先生は、隔週土曜日に教えに行っています。アンコールクラウ村は、日本の遺跡修復NGOが建てたコミュニティーセンターがあり、そこで子ども達が集まって、日本語や英語、そして知子先生の美術の授業をとても楽しみにしています。この日は１００人近くの子ども達が学びにきていました。一人一人画用紙とクレヨンを渡されて、とても嬉しそうでした。子ども達はそれぞれアンコールワットや花や動物などいろいろな絵を描いて楽しんでいました。

IKI IKIi school Part 3 - New Year Party 新年会

I visited the Iki Iki School on Jan 2nd and we had a new year party with children and their family at the village. There are about 30 Japanese people to go there the day. We had two pick up track. Before we go, we went to a market to buy food, snacks and beer. When we get there, children were waiting for us to play music, game, rope, origami etc. It was fun to play with children. The grand mother showed up and taught us Khmer as always. We all enjoyed the new year party. The school had a big progress.

イキイキスクール建設の日本人と村の子ども達と新年会をしました。今回は日本人参加者も３０人を超え、ピックアップトラック２台で移動しました。冬休み旅行中の小学４年生の子も参加して、村の子ども達と一緒に、縄跳び、折り紙、音楽演奏など楽しく新年会を過ごしました。こうして、村の人たちと交流を深めながら、学校建設に取り組んでいる日本人の方々のそれぞれの特技に関心してしまいます。建築経験者、庭師、教師、靴職人など様々な経歴の方がいらっしゃいます。また仕事がお休みの日に参加したいと思います。

On Sunday 20th, Chinese Vice President Xi Ji Ping came to visit Siem Reap. The Scout Brass band members welcomed him at the airport and played Chinese song. They practiced a new Chinese song just only one day, but they played very well.

１２月２０日（日）、アジアを周遊している中国の習近平国家副主席がミャンマーからシェムリアップ空港に到着しました。スカウトのブラスバンドメンバーは、前日に中国の曲を練習し、到着と同時に演奏しました。多くの警備、関係者のいる中、彼らの演奏が響き渡り、こうして外国の重役を迎える舞台に立てることを素晴らしいと思います。

Christmas Concert / 青空教室発表会

Today was my last day at the Blue Sky classroom. We had an Christmas concert and we sang some Japanese songs and Khmer song. It was nice that they could introduce themselves in Japanese in front of audience (staff of the guest house). I also gave an certificate and show my appreciation to these children. I spent about 7 weeks at the class and I am very proud of their achievement. They gave me some drawings and they made me so happy. It is sad not to see them every day any more, but I will come to visit them again.

今日は青空教室の最後の日でした。今まで教えた歌の発表と、私からの感謝の気持ちを込めて「よくがんばったで賞」をあげました。歌は、「ぞうさん」「大きなクリの木の下で（振り付けも）」「ジングルベル」とカンボジアの歌「アラッピーヤ」の５曲です。１週間に一つのペースで教えて来たのですが、皆上手に歌えて嬉しかったです。生徒達と毎日会えなくなるのは寂しいですが、またこちらに遊びに来て皆と一緒に勉強したいと思います。

I visited Cray Village with some Khmer teachers and Japanese sisters. I look forward this Thursday morning since children are very excited for the class. Khmer teachers and students sang songs together, read book, do art activities. Students made beautiful Christmas trees. It was very fun.

今日は再びカンボジア人の先生達と教会のシスター達と一緒にクラウ村へでかけました。この週一回の授業を、子ども達だけでなく私もとても楽しみにしています。カンボジアの先生達は、歌を教えるのも、絵本を読むのもとても上手です。今日は皆で前回準備したクリスマスツリーを完成させました。皆上手にできてとても喜んでいました。

Living on lake / 水上生活

I went to see the biggest lake in Cambodia, Lake Tonlesap. It was a quite beautiful day (almost everyday these days), so there were many tourists there. Many children help their family business such as tickets booth, restaurants or selling souveniors around the lake. There are many houses, churches, schools on the lake. I wonder how difficult to live on the boats during raining season.

今日はトンレサップ湖という、カンボジアで一番大きな湖を見にきました。雨期には湖の大きさが乾期の３倍ほどになるらしいです。いろいろな魚も捕れるので、多くの漁師が水上生活しています。その家族のための学校や教会なども水上にたくさんありました。子ども達は学校が終わると、家族の仕事のお手伝いで忙しいようでした。チケット売り場、レストラン、お土産屋さんなど、いろんなところで子どもが一生懸命働いています。
