Atsuko san and I visited Friends Without a Border children hospital founded by Japanese photographer Kenzo Izu. They are serving children free. Japanese nurse Mrs. Okao started local home visit and she also dedicates to raise money for the hospital.
Atsukoさんと一緒に市内にある日本人写真家によって建てられた小児科病院を見学しました。以前からこの病院のことは、話に聞いていたのですが、敷地内を見せていただいて本当にすばらしいと思いました。こちらでお仕事されている赤尾看護士は、訪問検診も行っているそうです。またそれだけでなく、日本各地に出向いて、チャリティー講演会を行っています。

We went to visit local school near Angkor Wat called Kravah School. Teacher explained that there are about 400 children studying and some living there. We joined one of class and Atsuko san distributed her gifts to children. I also brought some color pencils and crayons. Many students started drawing and brought to me and Atsuko san. Some were flowers, birds, houses, and more. They are all beautiful. They are during math class.
午後は、アンコールワット近くの公立学校の見学へ行きました。約４００人ほどの生徒が勉強しており、その一部はこちらで寝泊まりしているそうです。私たちは、数学の授業をしていたクラスに参加して、Atsukoさんは持ってきたノートと鉛筆を、私はクレヨンと色鉛筆を配りました。すると子ども達がノートに絵を描き始めました。鳥とか家とかお花とか、きれいに色もつけて私たちにプレゼントしてくれました。
お礼に鶴を作ってあげたら、何十人もの子どもが集まってきて、大変なことになってしまいました。ゆっくり作り方を教えてあげたら何人の子達は自分たちで鶴を折れるようになりました。

I also visited another children hospital by Swiss Dr. Beat Richner. I was with my friend from Swiss and we are very looking forward to see his chello performance. His hospitals (both in Phnom Penh and Siem Reap) have served 80,000 children for free last 15 years. He plays every Saturday night to raise money for the hospitals. His music was really nice.
偶然スイスから知り合いのお姉さんが観光に来ていて、病院のコンサートに誘われたので一緒に行きました。スイス人の医者兼チェロ演奏者ビートリッチナー氏は、プノンペンとシェムリアップに病院を建設し、過去１５年間に80,000人もの子ども達を無料で治療してきているそうです。 毎週土曜の夜に無料チャリティーコンサートを行っています。

Last month, I met Mr. and Mrs. Urushibara who were both teachers for many years in Japan. After they retired, they moved to Siem Reap to promote education for children. They have been visiting Oh village for past two years once a week on Tuesdays to teach music and Japanese. Now they use the primary school building, but they used to study where there was almost outside and no desks and chairs. If rain started, they needed to cancel the class. They continue "Small scholarship program" ($7/month per student) for 56 children for past two years. I was so happy to meet them who are so experienced and know how to serve children.
先月、同じゲストハウスにお泊まりの方にご紹介いただいて、ベテラン教師の漆原ご夫妻とお会いしました。定年後にお二人でシェムリアップに教育支援にいらしたそうです。ご夫妻は毎週火曜日の夜に、オー村というところへ出向いて、日本語と音楽を教えています。「小さな奨学金制度」は、一人月＄７を５６人の生徒を２年間支援しているそうです。以前は、校舎もなく、椅子も机もないところで授業していたので、雨が降ったら中止にせざるをえなかったのですが、今は近くの小学校を借りて授業を始めるようになったので、良かったです。お二人のような経験の豊富な、そして地に足の着いた着実な活動をされている方からいろいろなことをこれからも学んで行こうと思います。
